Environmental Forum Across the Straits Successfully Held in Gaoxiong

On December 25-26, 2007, the Third Environmental Forum of Two Sides  Across the Straits & Four Places, co-sponsored by Sun Yat-Sen University of Gaoxiong and Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences, was successfully held in Gaoxiong Sun Yat-Sen University. More than 300 scholars, governmental officials and enterprise representatives from the Two Sides Across the Straits and Four Places (Mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao) attended the Forum. The Forum set up such themes as environmental protection policies in two sides of the Straits, climate change, environmental technologies and environmental management, etc., and held roundtable meeting on water resources conservation and watershed environmental protection, industrial market of environmental protection, and cooperation and communication between the Four Places.

Mr. Liu Hongliang, academician from Chinese Research Academy for Environmental Sciences, and Dr. Wang Jinnan, Vice President of CAEP delivered keynote speeches of “Lake Pollution and Control Measures in Chinese Mainland” and “The Pathway to the Green Development in Mainland China” respectively, which have been appreciated by the participants. Wang also proposed suggestions on environmental management of watersheds, market scenario of environmental protection industry in the “11^th Five-Year Plan” and environmental cooperation mechanism between the Four Places.

 According to the decision of the Roundtable Meeting, the Fourth Environmental Forum will be held in the Mainland in 2008.
