CAEP Expert Attend Better Air Quality Conference 2026
From March 11 to 13, 2026, the 12th Better Air Quality Conference (BAQ 2026) was held at the United Nations Conference Centre (UNCC) in Bangkok, Thailand. Invited by Clean Air Asia (CAA), one of the conference organizers, Dr. ZHENG Yixuan, Research Associate from the Institute of Atmospheric Environment of the Chinese Academy of Environmental Planning (CAEP), attended the conference and delivered speeches in the plenary session and parallel session, respectively.
In the plenary session, Dr. Zheng delivered a keynote speech entitled Synergies between Air Pollution Control and GHGs Mitigation. Zheng introduced China's major theoretical innovations and governance achievements in promoting the synergetic control of air pollution and greenhouse gases, and shared the latest progress of CAEP in the research and development of synergetic optimization modeling tools, supported by the Key Laboratory of Environmental Pollution and Greenhouse Gases Co-control, Ministry of Ecology and Environment, China. In the subsequent panel discussion, Dr. Zheng put forward suggestions for promoting global atmospheric environmental governance from three aspects: strengthening the implementation of global air pollution control consensus, enhancing cross-national sharing of governance experience, and advancing the research and development of emerging AI-driven analytical tools.
At the parallel session Implementing Synergistic Solutions to Air Pollution and Climate Change in Asia and Beyond: From Science to Policy to Action, Dr. ZHENG Yixuan gave a keynote speech entitled Air Pollution and GHGs Co-control in PRC. He shared the basic understanding of co-control of air pollution and carbon emissions, and introduced the medium- and long-term synergetic control pathways for air pollution and greenhouse gases in China proposed by the CAEP-developed Co-control Optimization of Multi-pollutant Pathways for Air–climate Synergy Solutions (COMPASS) model.
Since its first session in 2002, the BAQ Conference has become the most comprehensive and influential air quality conference in Asia. Under the theme Together for Clear Skies: Driving Action, Accelerating Investment, BAQ 2026 was co-hosted by Clean Air Asia (CAA), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC), the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). More than 1,100 delegates from governments, international organizations, research institutions and industries in over 50 countries participated in the conference.
