Academician Wang Jinnan Attends the Hong Kong GreenTech Summit 2024 and Delivers the Keynote Speech
 

The 2024 Hong Kong Green Techn Summit 2024 and the inaugural Hong Kong Green Week opening ceremony, supported by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and jointly organized by the Hong Kong Green Development Institute, the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation, and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Green Finance Alliance, with the support of the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences, was held in Hong Kong on February 26, 2024. The Financial Secretary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, Maobo Chen, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. The Honorary President of Chinese Academy of Environmental Planning , the President of the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences, and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Wang Jinnan, also attended the opening ceremony and delivered the keynote speech.

Academician Wang Jinnan delivered a keynote speech titled "Carbon Emission and Low-Carbon Technology in Asia and China" at the opening ceremony. He stated that the key to achieving carbon neutrality and the climate goals of the Paris Agreement lies in promoting green and low-carbon technologies, especially the importance of renewable energy, new types of power systems, and carbon removal technologies. Hong Kong can leverage its international forefront and financial advantages to attract talent, innovate in carbon market finance, and foster new momentum in green and low-carbon technologies. By closely collaborating with mainland industry sectors, research institutions, and carbon market platforms, Hong Kong can contribute to the global development of green and low-carbon industries and inject new vitality into its economic development.
The conference featured six roundtable forums with guests including representatives from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region's policy bureau, business, academia, and venture capital sectors. Topics covered included "Building Policies and Ecosystems to Support Hong Kong's Development of Green Technology," "Green and Low-Carbon Technologies in the Construction Industry," "Green and Low-Carbon Technologies in the Transportation Sector," "Circular Economy and Green Energy," "Investment and Incentive Mechanisms for Green Technology," and "Integration of Industry, Academia, and Research in Green Technology."
Over 50 participating guests engaged in in-depth discussions at the forum, laying an important foundation for accelerating Hong Kong's development into a dual-engine center for green technology and green finance, in response to the national strategic goals of carbon peak by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060.
