IWEE is responsible for the technical work on water eco-environmental planning in China, key river basins and regions, and drinking water sources; the technical work on water functional zoning, setting of sewage outfalls into rivers, and investigation of drinking water sources; the analysis of water ecological environment in China and watersheds; the research on water ecological environment protection systems and policies in river basins and regions; the research on basic theories and methods of water ecological environment planning, and the technical methods for water ecological environment planning in China and watersheds; the analysis of water pollution prevention and control technologies in typical industries; the simulation research on water ecological environment quality; the research on groundwater environmental protection planning, policies, standards and technologies; and the research on marine ecological environment planning, policies and technologies.
