The Kick-off Meeting of CCICED Yangtze River Economic Belt Project Undertaken By Our Academy Is Successfully Held

 

On June 6, 2018, the kick-off meeting of Special Policy Study of the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED), namely the Eco-compensation and Green Development System Reform Project of Yangtze River Economic Belt undertaken by our Academy, was successfully held in Beijing City. A total of 40 representatives of the Asian Development Bank(ADB), International Network for Bamboo and Rattan(INBAR), the Nature Conservancy(TNC), International Rivers, WWF China and other international organizations, Tsinghua University, Wuhan University, Tianjin University, Chinese Academy of Fiscal Sciences, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Sichuan Academy of Environmental Sciences, Yunnan Institute of Environmental Science and other research institutions at home and abroad attended the meeting and participated in discussions about the plans , outcomes, work plan, expert team, budget arrangement and other issues for project implementation. Professor Hu Baolin, the Special Advisor of CCICED and Former Deputy Director of Office of Three Gorges Project Construction Committee of State Council, and Ms. Amy Leung, Foreign Chair Representative of the Project and Director General for East Asia Department, ADB, were present at this meeting and respectively delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of the meeting.

Academician Wang Jinnan, the President of our Academy and as the Chinese Chairman of this Project, presided over the first section of this meeting and introduced the overall framework of this project; Professor Hansen, Chief Foreign Advisor of CCICED briefed the projects of CCICED as well as their connections with SPS of the Yangtze River. In addition, ADB, INBAR, TNC and other international organizations respectively shared their research findings and project experience related to eco-compensation in such aspects as prevention and control of water safety risks, utilization of bamboo resources, agricultural eco-compensation and the river chiefs.

Upon discussions, the representatives decided to conduct relevant researches on eco-compensation of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, systems and mechanisms for green development, water environmental management and construction of ecological environmental protection platforms and other fields by means of the Eco-compensation and Green Development System Reform Project of Yangtze River Economic Belt, thereby offering valuable suggestions on major decisions on  the ecological environmental protection of the Yangtze River Economic Belt made by the Central Party Committee and State Council.

Wang Dong, Researcher and the Director of the Water Environment Department,Liu Guihuan, Researcher and the Director of the Study Center for Ecological Environmental Compensation, and other relevant personnel participated in the meeting.
