The Release of 2019 Global Go To Think Tank Index Report

With the Best 25th Ranking in History, Our Academy Was Selected into the First Legion of Environmental Policy Think Tank

On January 30, 2020, the world's most authoritative global think tank evaluation report, the 2019 Global Go To Think Tank Index Report, compiled by the Think Tank Research Project (TTCSP) of the University of Pennsylvania, USA, was grandly released in nearly 150 cities worldwide, including New York, Washington, London and Paris. This report is an authoritative report for the comprehensive evaluation of global think tanks by a team led by Dr. James G. McGann, Director of TTCSP think tank research project for 14 consecutive years. Since the first issue of the Global Go To Think Tank Index Report was released in 2006, the report has established an objective and fair think tank evaluation system, which has been revised and improved year by year. By identifying and tracking global think tanks and ranking them according to their influence, the report provides a strong support for exploring the development direction of global think tanks and guiding think tanks in various countries to better serve the society and government. Therefore, TTCSP is also known as "Think Tank of Think Tank". Its Global Go To Think Tank Index Report series has become the most influential think tank ranking report in the world.

According to the Global Go To Think Tank Index Report, China has 507 think tanks, only next to 1871 in the United States and 509 in India, ranking the third in the world. As the number of think tanks increases, the quality of think tanks gradually improves, and the international influence and popularity of Chinese think tanks are steadily improving.

In addition to ranking the global think tanks in terms of comprehensive influence, the Global Go To Think Tank Index Report also lists a series of lists based on research fields and special achievements. In the field of "environmental policy research", among the 99 top think tanks selected in 2019, our institute ranks 25th in the list “the top 100 think tanks in the world”, which is the best result that we have got since our institute was selected into the list of global think tank in 2012, and among all the selected Chinese environmental think tanks. Other Chinese think tanks in the list include: China Academy of Environmental Sciences (CRAES, 37), Civic Exchange (Hong Kong, 47) and China Environmental Protection Foundation (CEPF, 78).

The release of the think tank evaluation report and the continuous rise of the ranking of our institute are the affirmation of our institute's past achievements in the development of environmental decision-making think tanks and a great spur for our future work. We should continue to give full play to our professional and talent advantages, make concerted efforts and forge ahead, work out the "14th Five-Year Plan" for ecological environmental protection, give advice on how to win the tough battle of pollution prevention and control, build a moderately prosperous society in an all-round way, and provide Chinese wisdom for the construction of a beautiful China and global environmental governance in 2035.
