Our Academy Conducts Academic Exchanges with University of Maryland

On June 5, 2018, the State Environmental Protection Key Laboratory of Environmental Planning and Policy Simulation of the Academy (hereinafter referred to as “the Key Laboratory”) held the 70th Environmental Planning and Policy Forum to strengthen international academic exchanges. Professor Klaus Hubacek, Associate Professor Feng Kuishuang, Associate Professor Giovanni Baiocchi and Dr. He Pan who are the University of Maryland were invited to attend this forum. Researcher Cao Dong presided over the Forum and more than 20 persons who are various departments of our Academy, Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences, Tsinghua University and other institutions went to the Forum.

Cao Dong, Senior fellow and the Director of the Chief Engineer Office delivered an opening speech and gave four experts who are the University of Maryland a warm welcome. Dr. Zhang Hongyu who is the Chief Engineer Office and Dr. Zhang Wei, the Director Assistant of the Key Laboratory presented an overview on our Academy and Key Laboratory and our research findings. Later, Professor Klaus Hubacek and Associate Professor Feng Kuishuang respectively made thematic reports titled “At the Regional Level to the Global: Tradeoff Analysis of the Influence of Food-Energy- Water Resources-Ecosystem Coupling on Economy and Environment” and “Discussion on Depletion Potential for Customer Behaviors Influenced By Different Consumer Lifestyles”.

During this Forum, Professor Klaus Hubacek and his colleagues highly praised the research skills and capacity of our Key Laboratory and both sides shared their latest research findings and conducted in-depth academic discussions. In the end, Director Cao Dong hoped both sides would deepen cooperation and exchanges in the fields of big data analysis for environmental protection and trade substance flow and further conduct research in the international frontier hotspots related to environment and economy so as to improve the research capacity of the Key Laboratory in related fields and achieve its goals for building a high-grade laboratory.
